The Basic Fuel Price (BFP) is calculated based on costs associated with shipping petroleum products to South Africa from the Mediterranean area, Arab Gulf, and Singapore.

Essentially, these costs include insurance, storage and wharfage; as well as the cost to use harbour facilities when off-loading petroleum products into storage facilities.

The inland region refers to the inner parts of the continent. These areas are relatively far from the coast, resulting in higher petroleum price margins due to the following factors that contribute to the distribution of fuel from the harbours:

    • Insurance Costs.
    • Fuel Levy Costs.
    • Transportation Costs.
    • Secondary Storage Costs.
